The laurel wreath that is the symbol of Uppsala Akademiförvaltning was first created in Uppsala in 1917, when it was presented to the permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy, Erik Axel Karlfeldt (later a recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature) in connection with his receiving the honorary title of doctor. The gracefully aging wreath now decorates the property known as Sångs in Dalarna, mentioned by Karlfeldt in one of his more famous poems
